Essentially it's the dilemma that not all games are best played at the same pace, in a game like Dark Souls where progression itself is the goal moving through it at a quick pace can feel very satisfying, but in a story-based game (or one that encourages "stopping to smell the flowers") progressing through it too quickly can actually feel like you're damaging the experience for yourself by not taking time to experience it. Some games can be much more enjoyable if you slow down your pace or play them in smaller chunks.

What are some games on either end of this scale in your opinion?

Arcade-style games by design are meant to feel satisfying to play quickly. Fighting games, shmups, beat em ups, racing, etc. All can be thoroughly enjoyed in quick gaming sessions.

Whereas strategy games are best played out for a good while, because you have to be more thoughtful in your decision-making, which is where the enjoyment truly lies.

Dead Cells feels a lot more fun played quickly. So, do 2D Mario games, but you have to have the skill to play them quickly. That kind of means you have to play them slow to "git gould" and then you can play them fast.

Also, I can have a lot of fun playing Souls games slowly and carefully.

Arcade games of course. Fighting games. Beat em ups. Shmups. Arcade Racers and more. Puzzle games. My fave tho is stylish action. Ninja Gaiden. Devil May Cry. . Bayonetta and more. Some shooters fit this for me like VanQuish.

Games that don't. Well I will answer with a series that a sequel fixed the problem. Zone of the Enders 1. Compared to 2ND Runner it's slow and plodding. Mainly because it has this hub areas and going from place to place just takes up time slowly flyng over to each mission. ZOE2 just keeps the pace and no hub world. Action is faster as well. You don't need to explore the level to find the upgrade. You just get it in 2. There is a reason they only remastered 2 for PS4.
