Forums - Gaming - YouTube needs to add a report option for spoilers ahead of game releases

It’s fucking absurd that you don’t have the option to report assholes who leak game bosses/endings in the damn thumbnail and titles of YouTube videos ahead of game releases. I had some fucker leak Zeno in Resident Evil Requiem the day before the game was even out, and that was by far my most anticipated game of the year (die hard RE fan here if you couldn’t already tell). Needless to say, I was pissed. And YouTubers getting early review copies simply to spoil (read: ruin) the game is more common than you think, turns out it’s not just me this happened to:

“Don’t go on social media/don’t watch videos about a game in the days/week before release if you don’t want spoilers!” I shouldn’t have to barricade myself for a week (or longer) to blindly enjoy a game or movie I’m looking forward to. They need to make this shit reportable on YouTube and motherfuckers who do this need to have their account (and monetization) terminated like they would anywhere else, especially thumbnail spoilers. Same thing for assholes who leak spoiler clips for movies before they’re in theaters (I remember seeing and hearing about all the No Way Home spoilers in the week leading up to its release), there needs to be a report option for that, too. Right now there isn’t one. I reported said video for “spam” because there was no suitable option and they simply age-restricted the video instead of removing it even though Capcom themselves were admittedly hard at work at issuing takedowns for Requiem spoilers. Thanks.

Around the Network

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but at the same time, if it's something you really care about, you should know people are, um, people, to put it nicely, and algorithms are also what they are. You'll just get burned unless you're careful. A report option would improve the situation, but it's not foolproof either.

I hate spoilers and i agree that those assholes who put spoiler images as a thumbnail on their articles and videos regarding new games should be reported and held accountable.

For me personally i only check the game’s score on Metacritic and watch trailers or brief gameplay videos if i’m not sure about a certain game.

I absolutely agree with the sentiment, but it's probably pretty hard to enforce in practice. Unlike other report functions where, say, it's pretty easy to determine if someone is posting spam or slurs, spoilers are highly contextual and difficult to parse if you're not already familiar with the subject, as a general moderator is unlikely to be.
