Forums - Gaming - Last piece of gaming news that made you happy

With all the negative news recently I thought it might be good to look on the brighter side; what was the last piece of gaming news that made you happy/excited, and why?

Mine's the announcement of indie shooter Cultic for consoles next month; been watching this one for years and thrilled I'll finally get the chance to play it on my platform of choice: https://www.vgchartz.com/article/468278/cultic-launches-july-23-for-switch-2-ps5-and-xbox-series/

I mean, there’s good news around every corner. Gaming is just hitting a period of uncertainty, which yeah leads to some potentially worrisome and uncomfortable discussions.

Just to point at a few good news stories: All those reveals during SGF… wow! Still can’t get over it!! And all the upcoming Nintendo releases that just keep hitting? Oof. With GTAVI, OoT Remake, and so so many other games just on the horizon and next year promising so many more (Pokémon, 3D Mario, Spyro 4, etc.), this year truly is a highlight for video games and will likely stand as among the best the industry has seen (though maybe not the best in the sense that “the industry is in a safe and healthy state”).

Oh I concur there's plenty of good news, just thought it might be nice to reflect on some it in light of some of the gloomer stuff going around these days, as this usually helps me feel better.

Ocarina of Time remake.

Dat look like Blood (1997). My fav Build engine shooter was Shadow Warrior though.

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

Yeah it is largely inspired by Blood, with shades of RE4 and Dusk thrown in for good measure.

Gothic Remake selling 500K in a week - as a remake of a game that's known for being quite brutal and unforgiving (if you play it recklessly), THQ decided to scrap first attempt that was more mainstreamed and went back to drawing board and made something that is aimed at fans of original.

I can't say I wasn't a bit worried about the sales - but this sold quite well, they already have engine and lot of assets in place for Gothic 2 remake, so hopefully not only G2 but G3 as well will happen and then maybe even proper G4.

I'm having a blast with all the PC decomps and recomps. And I'm running them native on Linux (Bazzite), one of the few native things I run on there, or via Steam's Proton 11.0 Beta. I'll probably collect every PC port ever, I love almost all of them.

As for modern games? Stellar Blade made me happy. The sequel announcement too. I think it is the ONLY? PS5 game I've cared about, which is crazy. One good game for PS5!
