It’s been a minute since I last did a thread, and this is a question that I’ve always been eager to hear thoughts on. After having only recently played through NSMBDS and NSMBWii, I must confess that I’ve been much harsher on these games than is due— honestly, call it a hot take, but I believe NSMB might just edge out the rest for me. I love Wonder, but man, DS & Wii are simply masterclassesnin 2D platformers.

What about you?

Wonder is a huge step up from previous games in my book. Only game that's almost as fun as the 3D ones in my opinion.

NES / SNES comfortably better than the rest. Nothing matches SMB3 or World.

OG style 100%. The physics are what I love the most about them, though. When you play them on real hardware/CRT, nothing comes close in the 2D space. It's like Mario is an extension of my mind, or something. Absolute perfection.

NSMB Style was re-used so much that it soured me on it. I did like it for NSMB DS+Wii at least.

SNES > Wonder > NSMB

HD2D :) So non of the above.

I think I prefer the Wii era.... tbh (out of the 3 choices here).
I like the static backgrounds, I don't want too much happening in a platformer (graphically), clarity actually matters imo.

Super Mario Maker, I guess this is NSMB Wii style

Wonder was fun but a bit overwhelming, too much movement.

NES/SNES, with Wonder as a close second. And New Super Mario Bros as a distant distant third.

For me it's very close between the NES/SNES style, for how classic and groundbreaking it is, and Wonder for how gloriously creative and joyous it is.

For me SMB, SMB3, World, and Wonder all rank among the very greatest platformers ever made.
