PS5 Ships 93.7 Million Units as of March 2026

Sony Interactive Entertainment in its financial results announced it has shipped 93.7 million PlayStation 5 consoles as of March 31, 2026.

With 93.7 million PlayStation 5 consoles shipped that means 1.5 million units were shipped from January to March. This is down 1.3 million from the same quarter last year when 2.8 million units were shipped.

For reference, the PlayStation 4 had shipped 2.6 million units in the same quarter for a lifetime total of 97.0 million units shipped as of March 31, 2019. This puts the PS5 behind shipped PS4 units by 3.3 million units.

Sony did not provide a forecast for the next fiscal year, however, they did say, "We plan to base our PS5 hardware sales in FY26 on the volume of memory we can procure at reasonable prices and we expect hardware profitability to be essentially the same as FY25."

The company does plan to invest more into the next-generation, the PlayStation 6, in the 2026 fiscal year. "Compared to the FY25 operating income results excluding one-time items, the FY26 operating income forecast is essentially flat year-on-year, which is due to the incorporation of an increase in investments for the next-generation," reads the report.

There were a total of 74.6 million games sold on the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 for the quarter. This is down 1.5 million from 76.1 million during the same period a year earlier. Digital sales accounted for 85 percent of software sales.

There were 5.8 million first-party games sold across the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. This is down 0.1 million from 5.9 million a year ago.

There were 125 million monthly active users on the PlayStation Network, an increase of 1 million from 124 million a year ago.

Sony's Game & Network Services Segment for the quarter ending March 31, 2025, reported revenue decreased 28.9 billion yen ($0.18 billion) year-over-year to 1,022.4 billion yen ($6.52 billion), while operating income decreased 38.6 billion yen ($0.25 billion) to 54.1 billion yen ($0.34 billion).

Considering Vgchartz estimates add up to 2.6m for Q1. Does that mean there'll be a revision down for the quarter or is it more to do with Sony selling some unsold inventory from Q4.

We will be adjusting down our PS5 estimates. The gap between shipped and sold shrinking is fine, but not by anywhere near this much in a non-holiday quarter.

This is far worse than we expected for the PS5.

Thanks for the reply. It's definitely a lot worse then I expected.

By far. We expected shipments to be down a bit, but to still be over 2M. 1.5M is terrible.

Pretty much already in expectation of sales falling down a lot due to the price increase.

For example, we know it actually outsold the Switch 2 in the US both January and February, the sales did not fall down that low compared to the shipments, March must have been heavily lowered and they likely plan to opperate with less units on shelves until planned promotions are close.

Next quarter report should be the really low one for sales, based on already adjusted shipments from this one. At least that's how I see it.

We will have the gap shrink. At the end of 2025 we have the gap at 2.76M. Plan is to have it shrink down by around ~500K or a bit more for the quarter.

Adjustments for the PS5 are done. It has been lowered by 0.56M from 92.08M to 91.52M.

The gap between shipped and our sell-through estimates has decreased by 0.58M from 2.76M in December 2025 to 2.18M in March 2026.

Imagine how bad those sales will be on the next quarter after the price increase...

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won
