Forums - General - BlueSky Adopting AI?

BlueSky was supposed to be a safe space away from AI bullshit. Now THIS is happening.

Thanks for nothing, AI idiots.

I never used Bluesky, it always just seemed like Twitter for people who can't tolerate any difference of opinion and need everything to be an echo chamber of their own beliefs.

Not that I'm saying that's you of course, just the impression I got of the site itself and why I never bothered to join.

BlueSky was founded by libertarians with the explicit idea of being a decentralized platform where users would be free to choose the open-source moderation and algorithmic feed they wanted.

Believe it or not, most of the original BlueSky users were actually Bay Area rationalists and AI people. It was never meant to end up with this... peculiar user base who represents and wants more or less the opposite.

As if the opposing platform X allows a lot of difference of opinion…

At least you don’t get banned for supporting Palestinians on Bluesky.

Not that I use either platform. Social media shouldn’t even exist in the formats we are being offered these days.

X/Twitter's far from ideal and I'd concur social media in general is a blight in its current form, but I do at least see a mix of both right and left wing stuff on there.

As I say, I don't use Bluesky, but it has a reputation as something of an echo chamber.

So the same thing as Truth Social?

More or less the impression I got of the site too. While there's no shortage of people like that on X, the latter still has a large userbase of normal folk that joined at some point over the past 15 year, aren't politically inclined, and wouldn't even know who Elon Musk or Jack Dorsey is.

That aside, I don't see much of an issue with social media companies using AI. Besides, why would I use mainstream social media platforms when I have VGChartz and all of you wonderful chaps!

Here here although I do have a Linked In I never look at and facebook with no friends / pictures / and a made up name that I also never check.  I got 10% off a Tiger Direct order one time years ago for opening the facebook account.

For years, I've often pondered the question: what will kill the internet? Because nothing lasts forever. Radio, TV... everything dies off, eventually. But I just couldn't figure it out. Would it be boredom? Would people just get tired of the same old thing? No. Too addicted. Too much dopamine there. Would it be a replacement tech? Maybe. But what that tech would be was anyone's guess.

And then AI entered the chat, and I knew.

Since the elites are more concerned with getting this show up and running than protecting us from its harms, AI is going to quickly run amok and take over everything. And when that happens, you and I, none of us will know what is real and what isn't. You literally won't be able to open your Instrgram and be able to tell what is being posted by a person or a computer. And when that happens, your interest will quickly fade, and you'll start just not going on there anymore. And then... well... who knows. Maybe a second human renaissance? I have no clue. But I fully believe most of us will check out, and the internet, at least with regards to social media and human communication, will die off.
