This thread will act as a centralized location for all things pertaining to upcoming Sonic releases. There was no such location on VGChartz before… so now, that problem is solved. :)

NateTheHate2 implicitly suggests the next mainline 3D Sonic entry will follow the formula of Sonic Frontiers.

Hopefully there's a switch 2 update for frontiers. Will try it then. Unfortunately considering what they did with generations they're more likely going to charge full price for it lol.

I think they will announce a new 3d sonic this year.

My favorite Sonic game is Adventure 2. Not that much because of the gameplay, but the story is one of the best I ever saw in a platform game.

I would love a new Sonic title with heavy focus on story and the return of some forgotten characters like Blaze and Silver.

I'm guessing we will get a new 3D Sonic game announced. Possibly Frontiers 2 or something similar with how well received it was.

Edit: I would personally love a Mania 2 with more original levels as I prefer the classic 2D Sonic games over anything else in the franchise.

The future of Sonic. Same as it ever was. Mediocrity.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Yeah, hearing the next game will be Frontiers’ gameplay isn’t really news. I think we all knew that would be the case.

I really liked and enjoyed Frontiers! Definitely had its problems (Cyber space levels and the inconsistent controls; The story wasn’t anything to write home about; Not much to do in the open zones outside of collect trinkets.)

But what was there was definitely promising and encouraging for what they could do with that gameplay style. Similar to how Unleashed gave us glimpses and a taste of what the Boost formula could do and then Generations absolutely blew it out of the water.

We kind of got a glimpse of that already with Shadow Generations as that game was amazing! If we can continue in that direction, I think the next 3D game could be the best Sonic game we’ve had in a VERY long time. At least since Generations in 2011 (Or Mania in 2017 if you include the 2D games.)

Sega seems to have been trying to release about one notable Sonic game per year since 2021's Colors remaster. And it's been long enough since Frontiers so that we could be due for a new entry. However, they might delay a new game to next year to tie into the next Sonic movie. If that happens, Sega could still try to release a smaller game or compilation sometime in 2026.

People keep asking for a new Sonic Frontiers but Sega doesn't really do direct sequels that much for Sonic recently, no matter the amount of fan requests. Why do you think we haven't gotten a Sonic Adventure 3 or a Sonic Mania 2?

Yes, sega has a history of trying something new and then immediately dropping it with 3d sonic.

If the next game is actually frontiers style still it would be unusual for them.
