Should the next Donkey Kong game be 2D or 3D?

Having 100% finished Donkey Kong Bananza late last year I'm craving another new Donkey Kong game, but should it be a 2D game like Donkey Kong Country or a 3D one like Donkey Kong Bananza?

I'd like a new Donkey Kong Country, but I don't know what big improvements to make from Tropical Freeze other than getting rid of the Rocket Barrel levels, and having the Kremlings be the antagonists again.

I love Donkey Kong Bananza, but I wanna see what could've been done with, say, other Bananza Transformations. We had hints of giraffe and lion communities in the Canyon Layer and Feast Layer (and what may have been a Lion Elder's grave marker hidden at the start of the Feast Layer). Would Giraffe Bananza let DK pole vault across gaps using a long neck? Would Lion Bananza let DK clear away terrain by roaring really loud?

And one thing I was sad that I didn't get to do in DK Bananza was underwater travel. Knowing DK he'd be strong enough to smash through things even underwater.

So what would everyone like for the next DK game, 2D or 3D?

They should probably alternate between the two, so 2D for the next one. Personally I'm more interested in 3D though.

So by 2D do you mean a new Donkey Kong Country game or something new?

I don't really know what a 2D DK that wasn't DKC would be. I don't mind them trying something new but no idea what.

There was Donkey Kong Jungle Beat and the DK King of Swing duology, but that's it for 2D DK games that aren't under the DKC name.

Judging off how Nintendo handled Kirby, Metroid, Mario, and Zelda during Switch generation, I see a 2D entry as very likely for the next entry.

Think it'd be a new DKC from Retro Studios?

Finish out a new trilogy with a sequel to Tropical Freeze, despite all the time that has passed. Retro Studios probably needs to work on Metroid Prime 5 first.
2D DK could take until 2029-2030 because of that. Probably best to save 3D DK for late Switch 2 or early on the next platform.

I didn't like what Retro did with 2D DKC, but I thought DKB was great. They have a new hit franchise on their hands. I say stick to it.

Having just got an awesome 3D DK, I say let's go another 2D DKC next, to complete the new trilogy.

Either Retro can do it, or let Playtonic take a crack, their work on Yooka Laylee and Impossible Lair shows they've got the chops for it.
