Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo is acquiring 80% of Bandai Namco Singapore and will be renamed to Nintendo Studios Singapore

Nintendo is acquiring 80% of the company’s shares and will acquire the remainder at a later stage. Nintendo says the acquisition is intended to “strengthen the development structure of the Nintendo Group”.

Bandai Namco Studios Singapore has previously worked with Nintendo on Kirby Air Riders and Splatoon 3. This is the second piece of Nintendo and Singapore related news, with the company announcing back in September that it was opening a new branch in the country. Nintendo Singapore Pte. Ltd. is being established to help accelerate Nintendo’s business in Southeast Asia.

This team previously work on creating art assets for Splatoon 3 and Ace Combat 7; so they've already worked on a Nintendo game and the standard of their work seems quite good.

Presumably they will support other first party games going forward to speed up production and ease the load on EPD.

They are probably acquired to be an art asset support studio to Nintendo EPD, it makes it easier for Nintendo EPD to work on several big projects at the same time such as Splatoon, Mario, Animal Crossing, Zelda etc.

By the way, Nintendo recently expanded into south east Asia, they also recently stated that they want to expand into Malaysia soon, and Bandai Namco also owns a studio in Malaysia. That studio could also end up at Nintendo eventually. Nintendo's expansion into south east Asia seems to be related to their wish to have support studios there.

Bandai Namco Studios Singapore previous works: - Splatoon 3 - New Pokemon Snap - Ace Combat 7 - Soul Calibur VI - Tekken 7 - Tekken 8

I'm more curious why Bandai handed it over.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

They were also the ones who started development on Metroid Prime 4.

Probably not a huge amount of money was involved or Nintendo as a publicly traded company had to disclose the amount.

This seems to be exactly in line with what many here and elsewhere were saying about Nintendo acquisitions. This is a studio that was already providing support for many Nintendo titles. Makes sense to bring them in closer and build on that relationship.
