Forums - Movies & TV - Sophie Turner Confirmed as Lara Croft as Prime Video’s ‘Tomb Raider’ Sets Production Start Date

The Amazon-owned streamer has confirmed that Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner will play Lara Croft in its Tomb Raider series from creator, writer and co-showrunner Phoebe Waller-Bridge. As THR previously reported, Turner emerged as the frontrunner for the coveted role late last year from a short list of actresses that also included Mackenzie Davis, Emma Mackey and Lucy Boynton.

The series has also brought on Chad Hodge (Good Behavior, Single All the Way) as co-showrunner alongside Waller-Bridge and set a Jan. 19 date for production to begin. Jonathan Van Tulleken (Dope Thief, Shogun) has also signed on as director and executive producer.

Turner, whose recent credits include HBO Max’s The Staircase and the ITV/CW miniseries Joan, will be the third actress to play the iconic video game character in a live-action adaptation of Tomb Raider. Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander took on the role in previous feature films.

That sucks. She sucks.

Not sure if I've seen her in anything after GOT, but she was one of the few characters that actually showed growth and got better.

From that shortlist I think she was probably the best pick. She should nail the accent. I'm more concerned about the writing and the recent direction they're taking the IP than the casting, but we'll see; if it sucks I just won't watch it (I finally learnt that lesson after 4 seasons of Star Trek: Discovery).

Not really feeling the casting, but Phoebe gives me some hope.

Not sure about this. In terms of Phoebe, The first few seasons of Killing Eve were fantastic, and No Time to Die was quite good, but she looked pretty obnoxious in Dial of Destiny.

Sophie Turner is gorgeous and quite a skilled actress, but I have trouble seeing her as a badass action heroine like Lara.

My bet it flops.

Gonna be hard to watch this at first.

After watching her in Game of Thrones and the X-Men movies, cant see her as Lara lol
