Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Today one of my launch day Joy-Cons broke

One of my kids had some friends over and wanted to play SMBW.

One of the Joy-Cons refused to identify when pressing sr+sl. For a while the leds haven’t turnode on on that one.

I just right now took it apart and noticed that one of the two ribbon cables was broken. Of course I made it worse by completley snapping it while wrestling with it.

R.I.P red launch day Joy-Con you’ve served me well.

P.S. I’ve yet to experience the drift people are talking about.

Wow that's impressive it broke before it drifted haha. You got lucky on that joycon, other than it breaking of course.

I have launch joy cons that made it 5 years before drifting, but there has been substantial drift for a while now. One of these days I'll have to take it apart and fix it.

The ribbon cables are a PITA but other than that they are surprisingly easy to take apart if you own an iFixit set.

My condolences.

Also mine don't drift either. Though maybe I didn't play enough.

Mine drifted on the day I bought it.

But I think a large part of that is due to a software issue, rather than hardware... Because even with the joycons turned off, the console was still cycling through the menu like if the stick was being pushed down.

Either way, I can't use the joycons, way to small for my hands.

I worked for Nintendo call center when switch launched and I saw left jc drift issues multiple times a day. So capybara uourself lucky

RIP in pieces
I lucked out (relatively speaking) that my left Joy-Con (I got the Switch in July 2017) didn't start drifting until early 2023. I don't know if I'll ever bother sending it in or trying to fix it myself.
