Again, that is just not a "nice" number for a financial analyst. Once you get to certain thresholds, like 100 million, then you only report in big round numbers like 10, 20, 30 - unless you really need show progress or something (like, at the last milestone you said 130 million, and now it's three months later and you are only at 136, then you say 135+ so it still looks good).

Like I said, Xbox could be anywhere from 42 to 51 million. I bet VG Chartz is actually really close.

I really don't understand your logic. It's not about having a nice number. Do u think AMD will ignore hundreds of millions of sales from the range you propsed in a financial report to have a nice number?

You are really grasping at straws.

It wasn't a financial report, it was a presentation:

Without a timestamp, this discussion is pointless.
Also AMD doesn't really know who sold what, where, when and why. All they know is how many units they sold at a particular point in time. This point can be anywhere from August to December last year, depending on which timeplan Sony/MS has/had for delivery.

That's likely estimated shipped figures from him as Microsoft doesn't release any sales figures anymore. There are usually 2-3 million consoles on store shelves and in transit at any one time. If he is correct he would likely be a little under sell-through figures

AmD is referring to shipped consoles.

It's an estimate... regardless what the title says?
"Today AMD is hosting its Financial Analyst Day 2020, and chief executive officer Lisa Su provided an interesting estimate for shipments of PS4 and Xbox One."

This is an "estimate" about as much as evolution is a "theory".

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

A lot of people across the gaming internet gonna miss the + part lol. Safe to say XB1 will finish the gen at 50 mil.

Not terrible and could have went far worse. And hey it didn’t get last place (looking at you WiiU). I’m a optimist :)

No - in financial presentations, they use round numbers. So when AMD says 150+ million combined, that means it is OVER 150 million but BELOW 160 million. So with 109 million confirmed PS4's, that leaves Microsoft wiggle room of anywhere from ~42 million to ~51 million units shipped.

What stops them from saying 155m+ then? I still think that xbox is over tracked

Same reason why some review sites rate games on a single point scale instead of a 0.5 scale. Clean even number is the preference and who are we to tell them they are wrong/need to be more specific?

Yes -  a presentation at a "Financial Analyst Day" event lol. You can read about the other announcements here:

Everything and anything revealed is directly for investors and financial analysts. Hence - big round numbers to get them excited.

The way I look at it is the + sign is a very close number to reported number. So at minimum it would be 151m and max would be 154m, otherwise, they could say 155m+.

Besed on max number, xbox sold to consumer would be estimated around 41-42 Million's.

So based on AMD reported numbers, Xbox shipped number is around 41-42 Million which does not align with VGchart's numbers.

We are talking here about 7-8 Million over tracking???

https://twinfinite.net/2020/03/ps4-xbox-one-amd-shipments/

How so? PS4 had sold around 105 million by 2020 + 50 million xbox = 150+ million, so yeah by what they say, xbox sold around 50-55million, or else they would have said 160million.

So VGCHARTZ is actually accurate with the estimates, bear in mind Microsoft doesn't give them any numbers, so good job on vgchartz

PS4 has not sold 109 million by 2020, not even by March 2020.

The year 2020 started in January 1st
