Button mashing bullcrap, even has 'stagger'. So much for this being a remake.

Why does Cloud keep doing those heavy sighs?

Hmm, pie.

Will try it tonight. Not sure how indicative of the final product a quick demo will be. I suppose it will give a firm feel to the battle system, but my larger concern about Midgar being filled with silly fluff side quests won't be answered.

In the same point in the original what were you doing other than spaming attack/potion & the 2 magic spells available? This is exactly the same except there are more tactics going on lol

Button masher is not press X to choose a command. More tactics? Riiight, Barrett attacking is literally holding square. There's no limits, you can't use potions outside of combat, there's a dodge/roll button, the plot is already different.

Sorry I don't have the same view as everyone else but great graphics, same characters and good gameplay (and it was good btw) does not mean it's Final Fantasy 7.

I just played the demo. There are good things... and bad things.

The good:

+ Visually is absolutely insane. Some of the best graphics I've seen on a PS4.
+ Base combat system is fun and interesting. Real time action + "turns" is a nice combination that gives frenetism and strategy at the same time.
+ Being able to change character in the middle of the action is great. It gives us control, dynamism and variety.
+ If every boss battle is like this... wow. They are gonna be epic.
+ Music is Distant Worlds Orchestra levels of good

The bad:

- Map complexity is ridiculous. The opening mission is structured room by room, corridor by corridor just like in the original (except for the lasers part). You can barely interact with anything, you just follow a path and fight some enemies. I hope the rest of the game has a crap ton more of ambition... because if not, I don't think they are gonna be able to justify separating the story in different games.

- The lock on system is pretty bad. Sometimes it becomes really difficult to lock on the enemy I want.

- Ally AI is pretty dumb. I was using Barret to take down the flying robots... and Cloud, who cannot attack them properly... decides to attack the flying robots. Meanwhile, I'm getting my ass kicked by some foot soldiers. Also, I don't know If it's supposed to work like this... but it really shouldn't: your ally (at least in the demo) doesn't heal you. You can be literaly dying, if you don't heal yourself... you're toast. If being able to change characters implies that only the one I'm controlling is gonna do something useful... I rather just control one.

- When a lot of shit is going on on screen, is rather difficult to see who I'm I targeting. In the boss battle, I couldn't tell half of the times if I was attacking the boss or its shield generator.

- I don't know if it can be changed, but the camera is way to close to Cloud. For a real time action RPG, being able to see your surroindings is key. And FF VII Remake has a problem with that.

All in all, I think the game core gameplay ideas are good... but it fails terribly at executing them. Also, I really hope they don't do what they did with the opening mission and just make a 1:1 copy of the original game map design but with better graphics. That would be a shame.

I wouldn't buy this game as it is. That is if the demo is an actual demonstration of what the final game will offer us, of course. It's not a good first impression, that's for sure.

This is objectively true though.
The only tactic in this portion of the original is whether to use bolt, attack or heal.

All of this remains + Speeding up pace of ATB gauge with standard attacks, dogding, blocking, using defensive cover

Attack with Barret is holding sqaure, or charging his more powerful attack with triangle, or using x to select one of his skills including thunder, cure, protection, or his other power shot.

Just say you don't like the gameplay style instead of making false statements and pretending like you can't go through this portion of the original through tapping X 99% of the time.

It has a very slick production value I cannot deny that. It looks fantastic. Cutscene to gameplay is seamless. (I remember Lost Odyssey Promising this ) that said. Combat is just...okay. It can easily turn into a mash fest. Barretts VA is awful. Like truly awful. One holdover from the PS1 era RPGs huh? Once you get past the nostalgia and slick presentation. I still feel it's up in the air. Only a demo but the combat just didn't wow me much.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

This is what I call a surprise, in my opinion there should be demos for all games, like the old times. 70dollars is a lot to pay for something without trying first.

Furthermore, if there is a demo, it means the company is confident in their product which wins bonus points with me.

I thought it was pretty fantastic. The gameplay seemed to take the interesting parts of FFXIII, FFXV, and Kingdom Hearts. It's not complicated, but I found it very satisfying.
I was genuinely surprised that it ran at a stable framerate on my OG PS4.
My one real criticism is that there were a couple spots where the audio mixing seemed to be just a tiny bit too fast. There are a few lines where it seemed like lines happened one after the other.
But overall, everything seemed great. I'm really excited for the game.
