Forums - Gaming Discussion - Does anyone miss exclusive characters for any fighting game ?

Do you want console exclusive characters for each platform?

Yes 5 45.45%

No 6 54.55%

I want mario on playstati... 0 0%

Total:11

Remember back then we had exclusive console characters? remember link in soul calibur 2?remember Dead of alive 4 Spartan-458 from halo exclusively for Xbox ? remember kratos in mortal kombat 9? I think we need console exclusive characters for almost every fighting game again

Examples:While these videos are extremely short

spartan458 invisibility and sticky grenades.

Link arrows and bomb

Kratos arrows head of helios etc

Nope. In fact I loathe them, as they break the immersion.

But wouldn't a xenoblade character in soul calibur 6 get you excited and want more exclusive characters on switch?

Nope, not at all.

I would probably play through his story and then avoid him altogether. The only reason why I put up with Link in Soul Calibur 2 was because his throw was so broken (automatic ring out on smaller arenas since he throws so far), but I always disliked his very presence.

Why would you break the userbase between versions? Even if the characters are beloved, fans woul end up frustrated due to no version being able to have the full roster.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

It's popular to hate exclusivity nowadays, but I've always loved crossover characters when they make sense. Link in SC2 was my favorite example. I didn't feel like it broke the immersion at all. Yoda and Darth Vader made much less sense though. There was a thread recently about Mortal Kombat in Smash and Nintendo in Mortal Kombat, and I thought Ridley for MK would be awesome as a Nintendo rep, as he fits the MK universe's brutal design philosophy better than any other major Nintendo character. Breaking the userbase into two metas each with different exclusive characters is a bit more problematic, but rarely are such exclusive characters top tier, so it's usually not a big deal for the competitive scene. For the casual scene, why care? Just find a friend that has the game on the system with the character you want to try, and buy the game for the system with your favorite exclusive character.

No.

The poll is broken, no option for "franchise cross-over itself is an abomination".

Hm... no..? The very idea of it sucks. You can't have full access to all of the game's content on any console. You can't learn how to play character X or how to play against character X because they're only on console Y. How do you even set up a tournament for a game like that? Ban console-exclusive characters? If that's the only solution, it pretty much sucks by definition, really.

I'd like it if all three console versions had a character inspired by each of the three consoles. So for example: Link, Spartan, Kratos in Soul Calibur but it'd be the same on NS, PS4, X1
