Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Switch Online Cloud Saves are Deleted after a Grace Period if Subscription is not Renewed

Six months, just as long as Sony and for a third of the cost.

People can be too quick to overreact when it comes Nintendo Switch Online.

They launched a pay service while being particularly vague on one of their main selling points.

But 6 months is good. Less reason for anyone to complain.

A third of the cost, 6 months grace just like SONY, and every other aspect where it was objectively worse it is now up to snuff with PSN, and I'm assuming XBL? That's pretty amazing. All for a third of the cost......Please. They're not suddenly on equal footing. The criticisms have been fair for the most part. Even this grace period thing....Nintendo didn't have their shit together, and couldn't provide clarification. It's like watching somebody try to kick water uphill. It's the only place they have to go with their online service, but it's very reasonable to assume that the climb up said hill will be done as stupidly as possible.

The price can even be lower when you do the Family membership! As low as $5 USD per year! CRAZY!!!

6 days, 6 months or 6 years doesn't matter.

The only important thing, imo, is getting a warning before they do so. Like when the six months is coming up, I hope that they send out and email saying "if you don't subscribe, your data will be deleted"

Also can you transfer your cloud saves off the cloud when your sub runs out? Or are cloud saves all just backups and you would have the most recent save on your system already?

We got some clarification regarding cloud saves.

Oh great, right after I ordered a micro SD card to back up my saves properly. Damn!

The SD card only saves the digital games. If you want, it'll save your game recodings/pictures, too. Your actual game saves are still tied to the console.

I assume you're able to download and then locally back up your saves even if you're no longer subscribed? If so then 6 months seems like a reasonable amount of time for them to keep a hold of your data for "free".

Why do you assume that you can locally backup your saves?

You can on the PS4, X1, and Steam (Valve don't even have a time limit which is nice), and I believe local WiiU files can be backed up, so i'd be pretty shocked to find out the Switch won't let you. I don't know for certain though, so I thought i'd present it as a question.
