I've been wanting an Android Smart Watch lately but I don't know why and I don't really know what they can and can't do. Does anyone here have one? Any regrets? Any recommendations?

Update/Review:

So I got a Samsung Gear S3.

At first, I was a little disappointed because I had all of these ideas in my head of what a smart watch is supposed to be. I just assumed it was a little smart phone or something. It's more like a smart phone companion and a vital part of my wardrobe, now.

I was semi active but the watch encourages activity. It tracks my exercise, sleep, heart rate, etc. automatically. For a lot of people, this isn't very important but for me, this is potentially life saving info. One day while working out, I could feel my heart pounding. According to the watch, it was beating 220bpm! It was sometimes near 100bpm when I was just relaxing. Long story short, I have high blood pressure and I'm taking my medication, now.

I'm also in a Facebook group for Samsung Health and I compete with people all over the world. I've gone from probably 3,000 steps a day to over 15,000 with a rare 20k here and there. I feel better and, while I always looked like I was in decent shape (think The Rock in 1998), I'm already much leaner--all because of the coaching of a little gadget on my wrist.

Apps are hit and miss.

YouTube: Pointless.

Phone calls: Pointless.

Music: Pointless.

Web browser: Weak and pointless.

I do love the notifications (if your phone gets a message, the watch does too and it can control the phone to a degree). There's a billion watch faces to choose from and some are quite sexy and functional. The watch itself looks sexy on my arm. It's also cool getting weather, Twitter, news notifications, etc on my wrist.

All in all, I can't recommend this to everyone. Most people will find out useless. I personally love mine and I wear it every day.

I don't have one. To me it's redundant and pointless. I just use headphone controls.

Smart watch? Aren't watches incredibly outdated these days?

They kinda are. I've been wearing weave bracelets but I kinda want to upgrade. Plus certain areas of my job have outlawed phones but watches are fair game.

I want one but for me they aren't feature complete yet. I want the complete package with fitness tracking, navigation and more. Maybe the Gear S4 will finally live up to that.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Maybe if they weren't 299-399 for ones made of good quality :/

I like the gear s3 a lot. It's comfortable and fits the style of my clothes. The versatile look also works with the fact that you can use dozens of faces.

The price is a turnoff though. Maybe when they don't jam in useless features like phone calls and bring the price down is when I'll bite

Seems rather redundant.

You have a serious shopping problem. Is your house cluttered?

Actually not at all. Before I met my wife, it almost looked like nobody lived here! No pictures on the wall , plants, pets or anything. She decorates like crazy, though.

I buy a lot of games and electionics but that's about it. I like having the newest consoles or phones. Maybe some nice furniture. I'm not really into expensive clothes, shoes, pets, etc. And I make sure all of my bills are paid before I even think of buying things I don't need.

I think the "traditional watches with some smart features baked in" like a heart rate monitor which relays info to your phone will be eventually more successful than the full featured wrist computers.
Usually these last nearly a month before you need to recharge the battery as opposed to a day or two.
