Seriously, guys...if someone is under investigation and they (the person under investigation) asks you if they are under investigation, are your legally required to say yes? Would that make any sense to say yes? You wouldn't want him to alter his behaviors, that's for sure. It's funny how so many people accept the alternative facts of this president, yet expect truth from everyone else and assume that certain strategic denials would be gospel. This is an ongoing investigation and many questions asked by the senators could not be answered in an open session. You'll have to wait a bit longer for the Special Prosecutor to conclude his work before you can say definitively one way or the other what links there are between this administration and Russia if any.

Considering that Comey was under oath, he would be committing perjury if he explicitly lied. For questions too sensitive, he didn't answer.

You misunderstood my post, I think.  My point about not telling the truth was in regards to Comey telling Trump the truth when asked whwther he was under investigation.  If I were investigating the president and he asked me if I was investigating him I would absolutely say I was not.

I thought it was in reference to his testimony today. I mean, lying to President would pretty much justify firing, which is really the only reason the hearing was going on right now.

Wow...you're still worried more about truth in an administration full of alternative facts rather than worrying about the collusion of a foreign power in an American election.  Party over country, right? Trump should be just as concerned as the rest of us about Russia's involvement in our free election.  Let the investigation exonerate him, not his inept mouthpieces and his twitter account.

Not much has changed. Trump still isn't under investigation. Enough gotcha moments that both sides believe they won.

Did he confirm he isnt under investigation? I thought he was saying that during the time of the documentation he wasnt. I saw him dance around a direct answer if he was under investigation now. But Im tired so maybe I missed something

So. No collusion...?

Wow... I think a lot of people either intentionally or unintentionally missed the entire point of this hearing. Just a few things to sum up.

1. A lot of people are harping on the fact that there was no investigation of Trump. Which Comey confirmed that there wasn't, unless he just committed perjury which seems doubtful.

As Comey pointed out several times, there was no current investigation of Trump directly at the time, but there were investigations of other members of his campaign. He specifically said that some within the FBI did not want to give public assurances that Trump was not under investigation because he may have been in the future.

It's not a confirmation of Trump's innocence, but at least as of Comey's firing Trump wasn't a direct suspect.

2. The point of the hearing (at least the public part) was not really to discuss whether or not there was collusion between Trump and/or his campaign and Russia. The point was to discuss Comey's interactions with Trump, to detail actions which Comey felt were inappropriate and could possibly be construed as obstruction of Justice.

3. Comey claimed he was asked to pledge his loyalty to Trump. If that is the case, that's a pretty serious ethical concern.

4. Comey claimed that Trump asked the Attorney General, Comey's direct supervisor, to leave the room before saying that he hoped he would let the Flynn investigation go. That is wildly inappropriate. That can be construed as obstruction of justice.

5. The president was seemingly unconcerned with a foreign entity interfering in the US elections process. Not illegal in any way shape or form, but very troubling.

6. John McCain had a senior moment... to put it kindly.

7. James Comey claims not to have taped any conversations, which makes it puzzling that Trump alluded to tapes. Both men have claimed that tapes will vindicate them.

8. Trump privately praised Comey's job several times, which went along with public praise. This makes the move to fire Comey questionably. Comey believes the firing was explicitly due to the investigation of Russia, as Trump claimed in an interview with Lester Holt.

9. Comey has claimed that several leaked stories are untrue. He did not specify which ones.

10. Comey was concerned about directions he was given by the former attorney general (I think) regarding how to publicly address the Clinton email investigation, which is Comey's justification for going public with it.

Basically, Comey just confirmed that what was in the memo that (we now know) he leaked himself was accurate (of course according to him). We didn't learn anything really new. The conference was just about establishing the credibility of the account, and the credibility of Comey as a witness. Based on what I saw, I believe that Mueller will likely accept Comey's account as accurate. Whether or not that will be considered obstruction is still up in the air.

He wasn't under investigation while Comey was still in charge. He didn't rule that he could be under investigation in the future.

I'm not worried at all about truth in the administration or Russian hackers. It's a narrative that is largely wasting time. Even if the very worst of the accused Russian interference is true (leaking things that the DNC was doing or covering up), it's doesn't change the result of the election. The best possible outcome is for organizations in the US get better on cybersecurity and for old people in charge to learn how computers work.

As far as how much the US government really cares, I don't think there's going to be a ton of reaction. The US plays plenty of roles in the elections of other countries, so it's hardly surprising that another country allegedly meddles in ours (even if the accused action has zero impact on the actual vote collection or vote count).
