Here's an experiment for you.

You have access to the first-party software, hardware, and controllers from the big 3: Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox.

Build your ideal ecosystem, with those building blocks. Here's the catch: you need to represent all three companies.

For example, you can pick PlayStation software, Nintendo hardware, and Xbox controller. Or you can pick Xbox software, PlayStation hardware, and Nintendo controller. But you can't pick Xbox software, Xbox hardware, and Xbox controller. And you can't pick PlayStation software, PlayStation hardware, Nintendo controller.

Pick one company for each item, and tell us why.

That's easy enough:
-Nintendo's software (minus 3rd parties droughts)
-Playstation's hardware (minus online fees for multiplayer)
-Xbox 360 controller

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Not hard for me,
Nintendo software (Can't live without them)
Playstation hardware (Pretty easy choice, don't really have to explain)
Xbox controller (If I could pick, then 360 controller since it was pretty comfortable)

- Nintendo 1st party software
- Sony hardware
- Microsoft controller

or

- Sony 1st party software
- Microsoft hardware
- Nintendo controller

I'm pretty evenly split between these two. I currently prefer Sony's 1st party offerings, but many of their games are quite dependent on higher-end hardware than what Nintendo offers. So the biggest choice for me becomes; Would i rather play Nintendo's games at better resolutions/frame-rates, or Sony's at lower. I'm not really sure what the answer to that is.

Compared to the above, i'm fairly apathetic on the controller front.

- Nintendo software
- Sony hardware
- Microsoft controller

I can't trust Nintendo with hardware or controller so they will be software. Not a fan of PS controllers so they go in hardware and Xbox for controller.

If we're talking first-party software only, I'll take Playstation by a small margin over Xbox. If we're talking ALL exclusives, then it's Playstation by a mile. I'm not giving up titles like Persona or Ni-oh. Nintendo has Zelda and then a lot of other games I don't care much about, so it's in third.

Hardware, it doesn't much matter between Playstation and Xbox, so I'll take Xbox here.

Controller is Nintendo by default, I guess.

This pretty much.

Nintendo's first party IPs are imo far better than Sony and MS

Sony's hardware is far better than Nintendo and MS'

As for controller....ehhhhh I steer more towards the DS4 but the Xbox controller is fine - I use a xbox controller for PC gaming so its fine for me ;p

Yeah, I gotta agree with GS and Baz on this one.

Actually this was a remarkably easy decision for me.

Nintendo has by far the best first-party talent and games, with Sony a distant second and Microsoft a far distant third.

Sony makes powerful and dependable hardware (even if the PS4 was clearly whacked with an ugly stick) that's easy to use and understand. For all its flaws, the Vita is pretty darn great from a hardware perspective.

And my favorite controller of the bunch is the Xbox controller. I love its size, weight, and asymmetric analog sticks. Sony is moving in the right direction with DualShock 4, but its analog sticks are still too low and too close together. And Nintendo is a little too experimental for its own good when it comes to controllers.

Playstation software - I enjoy playing SCE's varied library, new games and IP's in each generation. Plus, Naughty Dog!

Microsoft hardware - MS has made two of the most powerful consoles all three generations they've been in. And the upcoming Scorpio sounds like its going to be a bit of a beast... So yeah, thats a pretty safe option.

Nintendo controller - Granted that it is a traditional (classic) controller. Nintendo.
