It has been mainly the opposite, most thought xbox had UK and US on lockdown and ms was going to battle sony for europe. People keep underestimatinf the World wide brand power of playstation. Just look at the charts. That is cherry picking, I can find many threads for any console that are just as far off.

HUH? That has been the consensus everywhere online the last 2 years. People keep forgetting how strong PS brand is compared to xbox world wide. They are getting reminded now though.

How strong it USED to be. I feel there is a lot of short term memory loss when people talk about the Xbox brand. There was NO Xbox brand outside of America before the 360. And even in America that brand was weak at best. Similarly, there was no Nintendo brand outside of America and Japan. Europe was always Nintendo's weakest market even when they were facing Sega back in the old days. In the 6th generation PS2 did 55 million in Europe, Gamecube did 4.4 million, and Xbox did 7.1 million. In the 7th generation in Europe PS3 did 33 million, Wii did 33.7 million, and 360 did 25 million. The brand is not a monopoly in Europe anymore.
I won't argue that the brand of Playstation is strong in Europe. What I will argue is that it is as strong as it used to and that it is not strong over its competition. It could become strong this generation, but right now we can't say it is strong. Not when it suffers such a heavy market loss as that.
