Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is Party Chat that important?

Tagged games:

I don't know if this thread has been created before or not.  i'm just too damn lazy to go search for it.

Xbox users have been bragging about party/chat and how awesome and important it is.

So my question to PlayStation gamers is: Do you want/care about party chat?

Xbox gamers: Do you care about party chat? if so, do you use it a lot and is it that important?

I don't really know what party chat mean ;o

well, it means that there is a voice chat that's independend from the game, hence you can play different games while voice chatting with your friends

I dont really use a headset or chat online, but the way in which parties are set up in xbox live it makes it easy to get a game together. You can still be in a party while playing different games, so you can play your current game while someone sets up a party for an online match, and than all you have to do is switch to that game. No need for signing in or out of anyting. its pretty seamless. I dont have a ps3 so I dont know if its the same or different.

I do like it. It's fun, and there are some weird conversations going on there sometimes =D However, I would not say it is a big exclusivity from the 360. All you Playstation people need to do is play next to a PC, and then use Skype. Simple as that.

It's a nice feature. It allows players to organize an online game easily and efficiently.

But I wouldn't call it important. Its inclusion or exclusion wouldn't affect my decision to purchase a video game system.

If your console has a game/feature that a rival doesn't, it is instantly the most important feature of all.

It's not something I care about. I've never used it on my Vita and probably never will. However, it does seem like a good feature for people who play in groups across different games.

Well I have this thing called a phone that I can send text and call my friends with if they want to do that while I'm playing. Of course I normally like to be immersed in the game and undisturbed anyway so I won't use it very often. For me, not very. For some, very. I'm glad PS4 will have it I guess.

Party chat is a plague to team games.

It should be disabled in any game that requires teamplay/teamwork.

I'm talking cross-game party chat.

Hey, in a perfect world, I agree 100%.

But I gotta say that everytime I play an online multiplayer game with my friends, I beg them to enable party chat. The amount of ugly, annoying nonsense coming out of the lips of other players on Xbox LIVE is staggering. And it takes all the joy out of the competition.

In my opinion, it's convenient to an extent, but not as important as people try to make it out to be. If it wasn't available on the 360, people would find other ways of communicating outside of the actual game they're playing (e.g. Skype) and think nothing of it.
