Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Worth buying a second hand 360 for lost odyssey?

Tagged games:

Seen a cheap 360 at a second hand store but the only game i've really been wanting to play on the 360 is lost odyssey, just wanted to know from legit people that have played the game is if its worth buying a cheap 360 for?

Keep in mind that I probably wont get any other games for it seen as I already have a ps3, I remember being interested in Infinite Undiscovery back before it was released but it got hit hard by the critics so Id be reluctant to pick it up.

Honest responses would be appreciated.

Cheers

Lost odyssey or infinite U? Confused by your linked box art.

Anyway if LO then yes! yes! yes!

Sorry had them both up their but you have to push the more tab to see Lost Odyessy :P took infinite U off to fix any confusion.

How does LO stack up against other great RPGs? Im into Suikoden series and Final fantasy ( not so much 12 or 13) Star Ocean etc.

Hell yes. Trust me this game is worth it.
To me its the FF of this generation.

To me, the 360 is worth owning, anyway. If you need a JRPG fix, Lost Odyssey is the most true to the style of FFVII-FFX, Chrono Trigger, etc. style that you're going to find. I haven't played it in years, though. Hopefully it's aged well. Still my fondest JRPG memory of this gen.

I nearly brought a 360 over a ps3 back when I was tossing up options then SE announced ff13 and versus for PS3...And we all know how 13 went annnnd versus still isn't here :/

Don't regret it though demons souls alone was enough of a reason for me to be happy with a ps3.

Depends, Lost Odyssey doesn't really get good until the third disc. The beginning of the game has a pretty high difficulty curve. Levels are capped depending on an area. Magic takes a very long time to cast early on and makes them useless so you have to heal with items and attack with magic based items (For instance using fire with an item instead of casting it). You have very little money early on so you won't have many healing items. Even though running through enemies is easy enough, boss fights have high difficulty compared to enemies early on. Later on, about near the end of the second disc, the difficulty eases up as you learn abilities to cut down casting time. Healing in battle and out of battle becomes more easy. Game becomes really good when you grab your ships for travel. There's a fair bit of side quests, extra bosses, and extra dungeons and exploration. You can go to areas where you're not level capped and grind up levels and learn abilities. There's quite a bit of abilities for you to learn too, which makes for better combat and strategies. On the story level, I really didn't like it, but that's more of a preference, so it was a bit difficult for me to get through the more difficult early game as I really didn't care to find out what happens next (I Liked the characters themselves though).

pfff forget Lost Odyssey and get Blue Dragon instead.

Guess I'm just reiterating what others have said at this point, but go for it! It really was a fantastic experience as far as jrpg's go. The dream stories alone make the game worth playing in my opinion. It's one of the few games where I actively went around trying to collect all the extras after completing the main story.
