Forums - Sales Discussion - Take Two loses money

Tagged games:

Take two has suffered a sever loss of 110,8 million Dollar this quarter. The loss of this year is 12 times higher then last year which was 8,6 million Dollar. The main reasons for this numbers are Max Panye 3 and Spec ops: The Line which failed to fullfill the expectations of the publisher.

I'd imagine investors are upset over GTA V as well..

A game that manages to sell 3 million copies within months of release is disappointing sales. This means they spent way more than they should have making the game.

It is also another example where a new IP like Red Dead Redemption carries less risk and has more financial success, than trying to revive and keep relevant some old IP by spending shit tons of money while not creating shit tons of value for the gamer.

??????

Redemption was a sequel to Red Dead Revolver. But I guess so many years passed since Revolver came out that Redemption might as well have been a new IP since everyone forgot about the first game. New IPs are the most risky endeavors whenever budgets surpass that 25 million dollar range.

Single-player games therefore have to be budgeted accordingly because multiplayer shooters are the standard right now.

They have worked years on this game. It was supposed to release in 2009. And just imagine if Max Payne 3 dissapointed what will happen to games like The Last Guardian or Final Fantasy Versus.

Guess they couldn't rely on Carnival games this time...

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Max Payne 3 I feel should never have been attempted by Rockstar in the way it was. The IP was already dying with MP2 and it's been near a decade since then, yet they invested time and money into it as if it would hit 'Rockstar-like' sales numbers. A large miscalculation.

Nope. They banded together and killed the Wii dead. Now, they can't get all the free money because they forgot to feed to cash cow.
