Nintendo cutting price of DSi to $100 and DSi XL to $130 later this month, as a means to provide "even greater incentive to pick up the systems."

Gamers on the market for a DSi or a DSi XL may want to wait a couple weeks. Nintendo today announced that it will cut the prices for both systems on May 20. The DSi will drop to $100 (from $150) and the DSi XL will be available on that day for $130 (from $170).

Wal-Mart has already put the price cut for the DSi XL into effect. The system is available today from the company's website for the discounted $130 rate.

The DSi and DSi XL price cuts will make the 3DS the most expensive Nintendo portable on the market. That system presently retails for $170, after its price was slashed by nearly a third from a launch price of $250.

Nintendo said the DSi and DSi XL price cuts will provide "an even greater incentive to pick up the systems," which currently boasts a software lineup of over 2,000 games. May 20 also marks the release date for Mario Tennis Open and the new midnight purple 3DS.

Does this mean that 3DS sales will decine again as people pick up the cheaper DS? Or will everything be alright?

No real surprise. I wonder if those units will be phased out of existence in the next year.

I also wonder if the remaining stock of DSlites will be further price reduced. (They seem to keep selling and being restocked at Wal-Mart and Toys R Us).

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

I hope so, I planned on getting another DSL on the cheap. This price drop is perfect for that.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

I think this price cut, like others in the same circumstances is mainly to appeal to an audience with low income and little kids.

I am actually thinking of getting an XL for 130€. Why? Cause I am not getting a 3DS until after the first redesign.

Mario Tennis will help the 3DS keep some of its steam, but Pokemon Black and White 2 and Conquest coming out on the DS is not going to help matters in the US. At least I think Conquest is coming to the DS only.

100.. 130... or 170.

for only $70 to gain the new games and better online system... fuck yeah that's worth it. Only real downside is battery life.

But, I think I'm going to wait for the eventual hardware change... probably announced at this E3 considering 3DS's first year didn't meet Nintendo's expectations.

That and Pokemon ought to sell another million units worldwide!

Love and tolerate.

im pretty sure this is purely to outsell ps2

Well at this price, I think I'll finally pick one up. Then I'll be getting all of the Pokemon games. So that's one step closer to another million!
