So a long, long, long, long time ago developer High Voltage Software announced that they were making a new IP for the Wii. This game was titled "The Grinder" and it was going to be an exclusive Wii FPS in which many referred to as "the Wii's Left 4 Dead". Take a look at the E3 2009 debut trailer:

A few months later it was announced that it would no longer be a Wii exclusive but would also be appearing on the 360 & PS3 as a top-down shooter while the Wii version remained as a FPS. Then this trailer was released:

At the end of the trailer it showed the release date as "Halloween 2011". We're already in November and we haven't heard anything about this game or anything from HVS since Conduit 2 released.

What do you think happened to The Grinder??

Almost assuredly

Time for hype

Wii version scrapped due to abslutely abysmal sales of Conduit 2, become a Live/PSN exclusive. Maybe Wii U Net or whatever it'll be called.

I suspect it was canned and they've started work on bringing it to the U using the Infernal engine instead of the Quantum3 engine.

hope not its all the hardcore they got.

Their hearts were in the right place (like proving what the Wii could do, unaware that developers knew, but didn't care), but the didn't have the talent to make either Conduit games masterpieces, so I don't think this would have been anything more than decent, even on another system.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I never got why HVS got so much attention in the first place, was it the whole "we're looking out for Wii gamers?" Crap. They are a mediocore dev and they made a mediocore pair of games, and the Grinder was probably going to be no different.

the game didnt look bad at all.

Atleast they tried to bring the Halo/L4D for the hardcore Wii gamers, thats an attempt that not many would have been willing to take. But unfortunately the games turned out to be pretty generic and inferior to the offerings on the HD systems. Plus I doubt if there ever was a hardcore audience in the Wii crowd who didn't just have a HD console for their hardcore needs. The only hardcore games on wii that sell are nintendo ips, which are exclusive. Other than that, these games were misplaced.

This at least you get it, but im not willing to give HVS a free pass just yet. IMHO, they knew they couldnt hold a candle to the HD FPS dev teams, so what did they do? Release an FPS on a system that didnt have much to begin with, it was smart and it worked...for a bit until people realized it wasnt that hot to begin with. It also didnt help that Eurocom came out of nowhere with GE and did what HVS tried to do and made it look easy.  Conduit wasnt inferior to HD offerings, it was inferior to most FPS games period. Hell you can get MOHs, Timesplitters, 007s for GC and they were all better than Conduit and those are LAST gen games
