Sad news this. Game Republic, the Japanese studio behind everything from Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom to Genji: Days of the Blade, have apparently shut down. The studio were also responsible for PS3 sleeper hit Folklore, a title with a strong Irish connection.

Kotaku is reporting that the team at GR has closed down their website and vacated their offices. The company is believed to be suffering from significant debts. Its safe to say the studio have quietly gone under.

Perhaps rather unfairly GR will be best remembered for the now infamous E3 2006 Sony showing that spawned THAT Giant Crab meme.

We wish everyone effected by the closure all the best moving forward. Folklore was a beautiful game. Not enough people played it.

Dreadfully sad.

Knights Contract did awful and couldn't even reach 20k across the PS3 and the 360.
Majin also did poorly.

That's unfortunate, but did they make any good games other than Folklore
(Still haven't finished)?

I am the Playstation Avenger.

They've been going downhill every since Namco became their publishing house imo.

Folklore is overrated, very repetitive, most people love it just because it is a PS3 exclusive when there wasn't that much PS3 exclusives back in the day,

Majin is their best game, and very underrated, i have a feeling that it might have the same cult following as Beyond Good and Evil because its a good game that no one bought, you should buy it now before it gets out of stock!

Thanks for not buying Majin, you dickholes.

Majin really was a great game it had it flaws (Majin unable to walk 20 steps before falling down yet able to walk fine in battle....) but really was a great story and loads of fun, I would say it was the best 20$ I spent on a game in a long time.

Former something....
