Are you stalking me?

The second one (will fail to match DS sales) has the 'dooming' vibe, but it might not be unlikely.

I suppose it is only fair for the 3DS to get a "doomed" label.

I mean, the PS3, X360, Wii, PSP all had "doomed" attached to their foreheads (or maybe their casing) at some time or the other according to the "intelligent" experts.

Most - if not all of them - seem to be doing relatively OK so why should the 3DS buck the trend.

I still will bet that the 3DS break all sales records over the Nov - Dec months.

Well it and the NGP have been "doomed" since the moment they were announced. Now these people just have numbers to play with to "prove" the doomness.

It's all gaming "jouirnalism" at it's stupidest.

Except the 3DS is doomed, if Nintendo doesn't change their way of thinking about it fast.

Reasons? Logic? Because after a few weeks it's not the highest selling console of all time, hasn't fixed the world economy, and hasn't discovered a viable alternative to oil?

It's a game system, it plays games, it looks cool. it may not be the highest selling one ever, it might be. For the love of gods just let it exist for a while.

In college I worked for EB and had a manager who I respected very much. I remeber him telling me, with the most confidence ever, that after Gamecube, Nintendo was done, doomed, gone the way of Sega. At the time, he had every reason to think that, but we know  what happened next. I just wish we could all chill out and enjoy the INSANE amount of innovation and awesomness we have gotten in gaming in the last 25 years, instead of being so damn cynical.

Wow....that was a rant! I'm not normally a ranter....must be the coffee :)

1-None of the launch titles for the 3DS are nearly as good as a launch title should be.

2- No one buys a video-game because "it looks good".

3-Very few expected the Wii's sucess because very few truly understand the video game market.

2 - Plenty of people buy game systems because they look cool! That's just silly to argue, its why moms buy Kinect, Tech Junkies buy PS3's and everybody and their dog buy Apple products.

But the visual advantage came at a heavy price resulting in high cost for the hardware and much lower battery life. The Gameboy soundly outsold them despite its visual inferiority due to its higher battery life and cheaper cost.”

Iwata looked frustrated. “But there are so many… other…good choices…”

“Would you like to ask the customers what they want?”

“I don’t think that is necessary! Hahahahaha!”

“Then you have only one lifeline left…”

“You’re right! Let’s call Yamauchi!”

“Mr. Yamauchi! This is Satoru Iwata.”

“Who!?”

“You made me President of Nintendo!”

“Oh… Now I remember you. What’s up?”

“I have a tough question. When making a mass market handheld game console, do I…”

“Son, I already told you. I think it’d be cool if the images just ‘popped out’ at you! Hahaha! But it is up to you guys to make it all work. And stop calling me on this line, Iwata! I’m supposed to be retired!”

“Thanks Yamauchi! I knew the answer, I just wanted to be sure. The answer is D: Focus on 3d visual surprise despite the increase in costs and decline in battery life.”

Malstrom looked at Iwata. “Is that your final answer?”

“Yup.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me.”

“Nope.”

Malstrom shook his head. “I’m sorry, Iwata, but you blew it. Believe it or not, the answer was B: Affordable and accessible with high battery life launching with great games like Tetris.”

Iwata’s face goes white as he gasps. “No! It… can’t be!”

“Sorry Iwata.”

“Your people… must be wrong. 3D has to be the future of all gaming…. Miyamoto swears by it! I… uh…”
