Forums - Sales Discussion - Did Bayonetta sell badly?

It sold great. A new IP, not a very popular genre, average marketing, etc. It sold great for what it is.

Yeah i think it sold pretty well, really fun game, head over heels better than God of War 3. the patch did speed things up a bit, but before the patch the loading was annoying. well the next game by P*games is Vanquish which is third person shooter so that will likely sell a lot better. i think its probabily on the only recent million selling Sega game thats not Sonic, so i reckon their pleased.

its sales were really really bad when you take into consideration of the games budget...

alot of shovelware titles can claim the 1 million mark regarding sales and there budget is normally just general staff costs (of which there are normally no more than 20) so it was a absolute failure I wouldn't expect a sequel unless its a hash together to make a quick buck

i think it could have sold better if the ps3 version was as good as the 360 version. Maybe then ps3 owners would be able to swallow their pride and give something other than god of war 3 a go.

the mistake was to make PS3 version so horrible.

I would've bought it for PS3 if it were good, but the way it is, I have absolutely no interest in it.

and this game just doesn't appeal that much to xbox crowd... shame

Soriku (Feb 10/08): In 5 years the PS3/360 will be dead.

It's sold over 1 Million units.

Not had a holiday season in the West yet.

IMO, as of right now, it's sold pretty well.

I don't get the problem with the PS3 version, I downloaded the patch and it ran perfectly.

hmm, how much of a difference did the patch make?

As I must admit I would be tempted to try it again if it made a significant difference (seen as its so cheap :D)

The PS3 patch helped alot allowing the game to run smoother and faster load times.  The game was definitely worth full price and if you can now find it cheap I recommend it.

If anything you can always download the demo, and just imagine the demo but smoother and faster loading time. (as i recall the demo was similar to the original before the patch)

Installing the game and the patch really helped the game becoming almost as wonderful as the Xbox version. In addition to that, the gameplay and the fun factor aren't lacking at all compared to the Xbox version. Playing it the first time on normal wasn't as much fun as playing the whole game on hard & klimax difficutly since you learn some neat combos and earn awesome weapons during your playthroughs. Really great action game with an underrated story IMO. BUY IT!

Take a look at my photos on flickr

Developers that still fail on the PS3 don't deerve my money. Glad it sold poorly, made them realise they couldn't do shitty ports and now they're developing Vanquish for the PS3 first (360 version will look just as good so both sides win)

I don't think it sold "BAD" per say. But I think that it didn't live up to expectations sales wise. It truly is a great game. People need to pick it up. Some amazing fights, and Bayonetta rocks.
