The 2009 worldwide game contents market declined 6.7% year-on-year to 3,668.6 billion yen. This is the first annual drop since Enterbrain's global report began in 2004. The shrinking market was primarily caused by sluggish consumption in Europe and North America, which fell 8.3% and 6.4% respectively. Japan's online, mobile, SNS and video game software markets experienced a total year-on-year growth of 6.4% to 564.7 billion yen. China's online game market overtakes Japan's video game software market for the first time, while India's market more than tripled the previous year.
