A really annoying part is just how much people like that have infested social media. A few years back you had the latter camp treating Hogwarts Legacy as some sort of purity test to an extreme degree that you had certain streamers getting outright harassed for playing it when no well adjusted person you'd see outside on the street going about their day would get upset if someone they knew played a popular video game. There thankfully hasn't yet been another case as extreme as that since then. |
What really galled me about that was a Youtuber I liked (because of their Doctor Who content) made a video calling out people playing Hogwarts legacy especially if they declare themself trans aliies. Then pointing to the backdrop shelf with plushies and saying, that they are aware many of these are made with child labor in poor countries, but it is OK for them to have them, because this person never declared to be an ally of exploited children. That left me speechless. I am fine with people deciding to put their energy only on select topics, but this rationalization was simply insane. I decided I don't want to be an ally to a community that clearly doesn't want me as one and had insane purity tests (I mean I am still for health care for everyone, that obviously includes trans people, but I am not an ally). I can focus my energy on other topics, like child labor. Stuff like this is not helpful for forming an broad societal consensus, you are excluding all the people you *want* on your side.
