I'm in the second Arc, I'd honestly rate it as one of the best RPGs I've played and mind you games like FF6 and CT are amongst that group. It's hard to convey how good the execution of the game is, I never tried the mobile version so it's all new to me. I think the reasoning for sub class removals is balance more than anything as the large cast and 8 person party adds depth to the point that sub classes could render the party invincible it is however a lot of fun as the party becomes a large jigsaw to play around with. |
You know, I'm not surprised about the surprising praises it got considering my previous experience with it. The devs of the mobile version basically got the free will to make a great single player RPG experience while some of the overarching mechanics were marked previously in its Gatcha DNA, but most people in the community saw the potential of a great conversion.
Also the devs were smart enough to make each characters in the same classes have different effective "usage" for them so that most characters would still be usable depending on what the challenge you face.
In the end, it's also cleverly a great tribute to both previous games in the series through mechanics, reuse of the world through a different context and a lot of music reused as well.
While I'll need to finish it's last arc first to form a final opinion on the game as a whole, the game is definitely a high grade alongside Octopath II so far.
