Yotei is doing really well with pre-orders on PSN. It has Legends returning post-launch. With YOtei supposedly having a similar budget to Tsushima, the game doesn't have to be a 10M+ seller to be profitable. I wouldn't be surpried if it's profitable in the first few weeks. Saros is another story, but they're apparently working to make the overall gameplay loop more manageable with more permanent character upgrades compared to Returnal. That alone should help it be more accessible to a greater audience. But it's also another game that doesn't need to be like 10M+ to be a success. |

I get completely what you are saying but I had that in mind and that's why I think their budget is important because it gives them room for error. In the case of Yotei they already have expectations from Sony because Tsushima was a success and yes they are facing a difficult situation when it comes to pr but I can't but think about HorizonFW. HorizonFW faced bad pr, not as bad but still and it made money but it didn't outsell ZD. They added FW to PS+ just one year after release and the logic of that move was pretty clear, they didn't like the expected number of Burning Shores sales so they added FW a couple months before BS release to boost sales. We don't know if it worked or not but we do know that even when it was pretty clear FW didn't meet expectations the studio was intact and they actually grew to take more work. Tsushima sold 2.5 million in 3 days, if Yotei can sell half of that it would be enough to start making money, as bad as the situation looks I personally don't think they are only going to sell 1 million and that is why I do think they are safe. The investment will be good because the budget wasn't crazy, the media and sales insiders will say and say things the same way they talked about FW but I only care about good games and safe developers lol. SAROS of the other hand has an "easier" path. Returnal sold 500K in its release window and it was thanks to a combination of reasons like ps5 shortage, the game being too hard, the price was pretty new and yes Selene also made a lot of people reject the game. 500k was enough for Sony to declare the game a success, acquire Housemarque and give them a brand new office. SAROS won't have to face those problems, they even confirmed the difficulty will be managed differently. SAROS needs to sell double what Returnal did to start making money and tbh that doesn't sound too crazy, I think it's going to enter the Ratchet/Astro first quarter sales category (1.5M+) and if that happens it would be excellent news. |
Ever since Yotei showed it had a female protagonist every single post about it by them, be it here in Brazil, in the USA or Europe, it has been flooded with hate and stupidity beyond belief.
Now after that firing it got way worse in the USA, saw many people actually interested in the game saying the cancelled preorders.
And for once, their beautiful limited Dualsense was the one that lasted longer I've seen here, it was days before it was out of stock and I still see, as today for example, it going back in stock for preorder which means people are cancelling their purchases. Here in Brazil. The limited PS5 was also in stock for days here when this stuff should last a few hours top.
Based on Tsushima success, their projections will likely be missed heavily and I fear Yotei is the last Ghost game, Sucker Punch will be moving after it.
Being profitable (not very profitable) means nothing if it doesn't meet their expectations, they want to invest their money building potential juggernauts.
