I don't like day 1 patches but they are part of life now.  

Not making excuses for it, just saying it's a bit early to write it off entirely. I wouldn't be surprised if it did still perform poorly at launch given the game itself is something of a technical mess, (as per usual for From Software's games) just saying that pre-release builds aren't necessarily indicative of the final product.

I didn't think you were making excuses.  I'm in alignment.  Day 1 patches are a thing and clearly there is no reason why the S2 port shouldn't be better than ps4 and pushing ps4 pro in performance.  I could see a patch making the game quite a bit better than what we've seen to date.
