I mean, I wasn't using Cyberpunk as a "good for current gen games" example, simply as a "this is the best looking thing on the system so far". Although that said, the Phantom Liberty expansion specifically was developed for current gen, with PS4/XBO not supported. In terms of current gen only titles, it will depend on the game in question. Kunitsu-gami: Path of the Goddess and Split Fiction hold up pretty well at launch. Looking forwards, Cronos: The New Dawn should be one to watch. |
My comment wasn't directed at you specifically, but in general. And the S2 is a giant step up from the S1. BotW is largely the same game, but the increased resolution and 2x the fps by itself makes it look amazing.
Split Fiction, graphically is meh, not sure I wouldn't read too much into it. I've played it twice and it doesn't come across as something the ps4 couldn't do, minus the sections that clearly use fast read storage. Don't get me wrong, Split Fiction is spectacular. One of the best games I have played in a long time.
For me I really want to see Rebirth. Because my computer crushed it, no issues running it 100 fps at 4k maxed settings. Meanwhile the ps5 struggled with image quality at 60 fps. So I think Rebirth will be an excellent benchmark for the S2, at least for me, since I have experienced on two different sets of hardware.
Either way, I am super pleased. Nintendo games with ps4 to ps4 pro graphics.... yes please. I can't wait to see Luigi's Mansion 4, the lighting alone will be a massive improvement.
Overall the S2 landed exactly where I expected it to be. I do think this time next year the S2 will be behind other devices via the Strix Halo, but it will also be cheaper. I do think Strix Halo is game changing for mobile devices. 256 gb/s, upgraded CPU/GPU and FSR4 is on par (maybe a bit better) than DLSS 3. But I also never wanted a cutting edge tech S2, because I don't want to pay $800, especially since my kids have ones as well. $450 x 3 is much cheaper than $800 x 3.
