Smash 64 came to the Wii U VC, so there's some precedent there. I'm in the boat that iterative IPs like Smash and Mario Kart are deep longshots to ever get standalone remakes/remasters instead of just coming to the NSO. It makes sense more sense to do so for single-player and story driven games, but I'd imagine the demand for remastered GameCube games taking the place of brand new entries that push the series forward is pretty minuscule.
