Got a new couch and I've started taking to lying on it while gaming, I have a swivel stand that raises and lowers so I get a direct on view and I'm no more than 7 foot away from my 50 inch which is around 5 feet closer than normal and I'm shocked, after a while I have started to notice the difference in detail, the good stuff and the bad. It's not something gigantic leap but it's a lot more than I was expecting. Detail far off in Oblivion doesn't pack the same punch at 7 foot and you can see some of the detail without having to squint and this has an effect of seeing more of the image quality issues in Performance.
I haven't changed my stance on the PRO and still think devs should be using it for more than just quality and performance combined but I get why some people defend the PRO who either have really big TVs, small rooms or monitors and using quality mode actually makes a difference, at least in Oblivion. It took a few days and me returning to the recliner for my brain to pick up on thus and noticing it goes away after you start playing but I retract my stance on 5 foot from a 50 inch being the point where things become noticeable. I'd now say 8 foot.
