So was HZD in the first 10 hours. Problem with Horizon series is, the first 10 hours are crap :/ It's when you're let loose out of the 'tutorial' area that the game starts to click. Also with tons of side stories and different factions to mingle with. |
I wouldn't be able to take 30 hours. That's way too long and playstation need to seriously think about onboarding. A game should be fun within the first session, 2 to 3 hours max or have some hook to get you invested early. No treating the player like a baby. No keeping the best content for 30 hours in. Make a decent experience from the start. I like to give every game a good lon while to make sure before I quit but 30 hours is where many great games end, not start. 7-10 hours is my max anymore, that's when Stellar Blade really clicked and Wukong grabbed me enough for a great experience later on but no giving uninteresting unrewarding experiences the time it would take me to finish a really fun shorter game or maybe two dopamine fueled indies. My free time is valuable, too valuable and it's too hard to get out of that too tired to do anything and get on a game to be put to sleep before and push yourself to get far enough in a game to get Stockholm syndrome. Clair Obscur E33 starts out great, turns phenomenal and then goes full swing into one of the best games ever, not every game needs to get to thst level but that should be the goal and hopefully fall start good and get better in a slow ramp. Oh and Aloy should be shut up completely put of actually dialogue, many people talk to themselves but it's really bad story telling to have your character explain everything that's going on while rambling to themselves, it shows you don't respect the players intelligence much like Ragnorok giving the solution to puzzles before you have had a chance to even have a look fully at the puzzle room. Present the world and story through visual means, hell put in a few audio or text logs if you can't figure out how and allow me the agency to figure out for myself even if it's my own interpretation and then correct things in the cutscenes. FromSoft have fuck all dialogue but the world's have 10 times the depth because there is much your own imagination can vome up with along the way and fill the blanks making it feel like the story is more complex.
Sorry for the rant.
