Poor argument. Nintendo's handhelds are just as stable as Sony's home consoles, and without as much reliance on 3rd party content. Nintendo's hybrids will probably prove even more stable. Sony's home consoles are consistently at least solid in 1st party games and comfortably the best in 3rd party support (only X360 truly challenged it, and it was expressed in sales and marketshare). This is the primary reason why their consoles don't fluctuate too much, and why the Playstation brand is so strong today. "Fanboyism" has nothing to do with it. Fanboys of every platform are just a loud minority. Playstation remains a great platform. |
Consistency and marketing helps quite a bit. SNY makes this blatantly obvious with their naming scheme, and more recently, keeping the same font even. Their messaging and marketing tend to be quite clear most of the time as well. Consumers like this.

Nin tried this with Wii and then Wii U but failed due to poor marketing and messaging. They've since learned with Switch and Switch 2 and look likely to succeed this time, in part due to consistency, among other things.
And then there's XB...
PS1 - ! - We must build a console that can alert our enemies.
PS2 - @- We must build a console that offers online living room gaming.
PS3 - #- We must build a console that’s powerful, social, costs and does everything.
PS4 - $- We must build a console that’s affordable, charges for services, and pumps out exclusives.
PRO -%-We must build a console that's VR ready, checkerboard upscales, and sells but a fraction of the money printer.
PS5 - ^ -We must build a console that’s a generational cross product, with RT lighting, and price hiking.
PRO -&- We must build a console that Super Res upscales and continues the cost increases.
