Beat Like a Dragon Gaiden. 26 hours. 8/10. Platinum.

Fantastic game, a concise story with a beginning middle and end and very nicely sized compared to the long meandering story's of the mainline games. This is my favourite Yakuza game easily, the combat is the best yet, the story is about 10 hours but going for the platinum has you engage with a fantastic tapestry of side content that extends that time more than double and is so much fun to grind and so rewarding. Some of the side quests were weak on the way there and often I wished I could have skipped a few and some I did and the game still feels dated in design but they seem to be in the business of refining what works instead of evolving and if it helps them keep the release schedule up, good for them, it works. The smallest map yet and it's actually a plus, it worked great and I knew where everything was without confusion, they could have easily thrown in Yokohama and had everything spread out and I respect that they didn't, this game proves the smaller the map for these games the better. Kinda ruined LAD Yakuza for me but that's not the games fault, 32 hours into that one and still on chapter 6 of 13 so doubt I'll return for closing that out but if I do I know what happens now and as much as I wanna know what happens in Hawaii and where things go... those games are far, far too long. I look forward to Pirate Yakuza when it's half price, I know I'll love it even more than this from glancing at its Platinum and I'm all in for this size with maximum goofiness.
