It's yet another case of people setting the wrong expectations for themselves. Ever since Furukawa's announcement regarding Nintendo having an announcement for Switch's successor this fiscal year while simultaneously confirming that the successor won't launch this fiscal year, it should have been clear that said upcoming announcement would be on the low-key side. But just like it has happened so often with Nintendo Directs, people have the wildest dreams of what they are going to get and then come away disappointed when the actual Direct was just good.

I don't think its much about having unrealistic expectations but just questioning the value of such a stand alone trailer when they could obviously do a way more exciting reveal and still left plenty for a bigger event. That in itself is fair observation regardless of what was expected of Nintendo. It's just calling a spade a spade.

We also don't know the behind the scenes are either, so I wouldn't defend this route as if we know it was always Nintendo's intention and optimal version of events. For sure though, none of this matters in the long run in terms of a successful launch, so its just a matter of discussing preference.
