If they had a monopoly then surely the Switch would've been the base platform of development for monster hunter Wilds? Since most sales of monster hunter are from japan? Why would Capcom allow their franchise which is hugely successful in Japan to miss the system that has a monopoly? 3DS did a lot better than people realise, considering it had no new gimmick like the dual screens of the OG DS or the Switch. Saying 3DS sales are the floor is severely downplaying it's success. Remember the 3DS was much cheaper than the Switch 2 is going to be. Much cheaper. |
By no means Monster Hunter sales came primarily from Japan. World sales in Japan were about 5.5 million (including Iceborn). Worldwide the sales already exceed 25 million. But anyway, don't worry Wilds will easily be ported to Switch 2
3DS sold 25 million having competition with PS Vita, while also lacking home console IPs from Nintendo like 3D Mario, Mario Kart and Zelda. Switch 2 has no competition in handheld market, will have all third parties relevant in Japan (including Monster Hunter which is a given to be released in Switch 2) and the strength of Nintendo first party title that historically belongs to consoles. It's going to sell 30 million units
