As much as I have problems with Metaphor, it easily has the most likable characters. Pretty much all of them aside from the protagonist are likable and complex. Hiesmay especially as the highlight. Tales of Arise wasn't bad in this regard but the characters aren't cohesive and it's all very anime. This would be an easier question to answer back in the days when it was all text because you impose your own idea of their character onto them. It's tougher these days, frankly I don't think JRPGs have strong characters, it's almost always the same tropes over and over again and all very predictable and them their is the overly friendly, overly happy aspect of how they are implemented which is repulsive after enough time and the localisation doesn't help which ends up putting everything to heavily on the nose and no room for nuance. Again, Metaphor done so well with this, if this game evolved anything it's the localisation which is the best there ever has been and whoever they hired to handle need to be the default go to for studios who can afford it instead of the old anime vA who end up in everything and if it was them, themselves that put that all together they need to make a company out of it. It was so perfect, using different UK dialects was a stroke of genuis.
