There is stuff coming out that's really creative, you just have to look for it and wade through a lot of crap to get to it. Dave the Diver as one example off the top of my head, Kunisu- Gami as another recent one.... Belatro. I've a thread here on genre bending games that gives many examples of creativity, I'd say it more creative these days and it's a sight harder to do innovation when everything's already been done, they found it easy to innovate back in the day simply cuase most of the obvious stuff hadn't been done.
