My wife loves Mario Party 8 and I really enjoy it, however, if I knew Mario Party 9 was coming out soon, then I would say wait for 9.
8 doesn't support wide screen, which just annoys me with the side bars, and it seems like it is lacking in variation for mini-games that use the wii remote. However, I like it and there is really no reason not to buy it unless you don't like those types of games.
