I still can't believe this deal happened. Embracer can make their money back on this deal so easily. If Embracer has a single game sell 10 million copies at $60 a piece, they've literally doubled the amount they spent on all of Square's western divisions. That's how little Square valued it.
Square will start trashing all of their IP's. I'm worried for upcoming Square games that will have no business having NFT's, but will. |
Speaking of. SEK 500m = $50m. |
I think the line about breaking even with back catalog is interesting. The known modus operandi for Embracer includes remasters and ports in a lot of cases. So it seems probably, Embracer plans to remaster at least a few of the older titles: Legacy of Kain, Sleeping Dogs, Deus Ex, Thief and so on while porting the newer titles to more platforms. These old games will not make massive numbers, but the ports and remakes should be easily made with low budget and therefore become easily profitable. And as a bonus Embracer can gauge interest in these IPs to decide on possible new entries.
