That would certainly explain it.
It also may not be a bad time for PS4 to officially drop it's price. Not only does it seem well overdue, but it would help get sales back up to where they belong, if they do have shortages down the road. Mind you, could the console companies look at this as an opportunity to upsell consumers on next gen perhaps?

PRO -%-We must build a console that's VR ready, checkerboard upscales, and sells but a fraction of the money printer.
PS5 - ^ -We must build a console that’s a generational cross product, with RT lighting, and price hiking.
PRO -&- We must build a console that Super Res upscales and continues the cost increases.
