| Train wreck said: Nintendo consoles have, for the most part, always sold more than their Sony (and everyone else) counterparts in Japan but we STILL get these silly assertions that 3rd parties will magically start developing for Nintendo only because of it. Who knows maybe the Switch will be the one...MAYBE. |
Sorry, what? That is some big load of revisionist history. Let's look at the math as Megiddo does:
PS: 19M > N64: 5.5M
PS2: 23M > GC: 4M
PS3: 10M < Wii: 12.7M (but notice how outside of Japan the Wii also is in lead, in NA it's 45M to 29M in favor of the Wii)
PS4: 7M > WiiU: 3.3M
PSP: 20M < DS: 33M
Vita: 5.8M < 3DS: 24M
So, in difference to a suspected Nintendo-preference from Japan, in reality Japan was more or less in line with the rest of the world. If Nintendos console was bigger, it was also in Japan. If Sonys console was bigger, than it also won in Japan.
For the 3rd-party stuff: winning consoles like DS, 3DS, Wii and Switch all got japanese 3rd-party support. The losing consoles did not.
