That's exactly right. Not sure though if Crash really is more demanding than Diablo. Devs report to have more of a problem with cartridge size than anything, so the old textures and models of Crash even remastered took less space. I can find that Crash on PS4 is 30GB install size, Diablo 40GB. This can actually be the bigger effort, to get the size down.
But in any case, it doesn't really matter, as you point out profit is all that matters. Crash being a remaster couldn't be set at the same price as the newer game. Because of customer perception, nothing else. A game cost as much as the publisher thinks he can ask for and get away with it, not how much effort got into creating it.
