Many people like to expand upon fictive scenarios, for instance the story behind a game or movie (although all involved know it is all made up). That can be a lot of fun, if you let it happen. Your dismissal is quite offensive for someone who enjoys such speculation. I personally think it is way less annoying than people speculating if Brad Pitt is pregnant or Jessica Alba beats her husband. But that speculation is so popular, that a whole industry formed around it and got even their own name: yellow press.
