So you're saying that selling 60 million consoles in today's market is the same as selling 60 million consoles in an era where the home console market had died, crashed and completely disapeared? Give me a break! lol |
No, the climate was different, but that doesn't mean selling consoles today is easy. Look at the WiiU and the Vita for examples to the contrary. From the current gen only 3DS and now PS4 outsold it, while XB1, Vita and WiiU fell short. So more consoles missed the milestone (I just assume XB1 will not make it anymore) than cleared it. While the PS4 is the 11th console to outsell it, after NES came 14 consoles that all sold less (SNES, N64, Genesis, Xbox, GC, Vita, WiiU, GameGear, Saturn, Dreamcast, Wonderswan, NeoGeo, 3DO, TurboGrafx). So you can see NES as a watermark for successful consoles, if you passed it, you among the better half.
So don't try to downsell that milestone. That's shabby. Congratulations for PS4 that it cleared that mark.
