With the Wii U, Nintendo gave third parties that power. They positioned the console as an additional option to PS and Xbox, a device that will play the same games. Of course, such a product cannot afford to not have the games then. Third parties were positive about the Wii U when the system was unveiled.

Third parties didn't hold the power to sink the Wii. Third parties didn't like it.

The wii u was never positioned as a secondary console until after it was beaten by both the ps4 and Xbox one (it was damage control).

Third parties never had power on the wii u (except for Ubisoft which is why they were the most supportive). That was the biggest reason why Bethesda and ea left.

nintendo designed a console with a gimmick in mind, not for developers (much less third parties). Therefore all third parties left and took their respective fanbases with them

WiiU got Assassins Creed, COD, Splinter Cell, Need for Speed and stuff like that. EA announced a "Unprecedented Partnership". 3rd-parties were supportive for WiiU in the beginning.
